“Do you know WHAT Central Asia is? Do you know WHERE Central Asia is?”
Join us for a screening of three moving image works by artist Ye Wuji. Motivated by an enigmatic fascination with Central Asia, much of Ye’s work explores the region’s cultural, social, and geopolitical complexities. With as much curiosity as reflexivity, the three works included in this screening bring out various aspects and registers of Ye’s practice, interweaving research and fiction, criticality and playfulness, the politics of everyday life and the flooding of visual forms.
The screening will be followed by an informal Q&A session in both Chinese and English.
This event is part of Gourd Canteen's ongoing programme of talks, screenings, reading groups, and workshops, conceived as a space for self-organised learning and community support.
About the artist
Born in 1991 in China Proper, Ye Wuji currently lives and works in London. He graduated from Goldsmiths, University of London in 2016 with an MFA in Fine Art. His works have been exhibited in G Museum, Nanjing (2021); Magician Space, Beijing(2020); Yell Space, Chongqing (2019); Arti et Amicitiae, Amsterdam(2017); Kingsgate Project Space, London(2016); National Gallery, Prague(2016); OCAT, Shenzhen (2014).
